  2. Academic qualification – The higher the education degree, the more points you earn. That is why those with a master’s or doctorate degree scores higher in the ranking grid than those with just a bachelor’s degree or higher secondary education.
  3. English language proficiency – Candidates must pass the IELTS exam with a minimum CLB level of 7. Those scoring higher will have increased comprehensive ranking scale (CRS) scores once in the Express Entry pool. Improving your IELTS score is one of the common ways to accelerate your Canada PR process. However, one must note that this score should not be older than two years. Applicants knowing French and passing the relevant examination will get additional points for the second official language.
  4. Work Experience – To apply under the Express Entry immigration stream for a Canada visa, individuals must have a minimum of one year of work experience. The higher the number of years of work experience you have, the better for you. However, your current occupation should be listed under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) code of Skill Type 0 or level A or B.
  5. Self-Arranged Employment – With a job offer from a Canadian employer, your profile is already strong, and this will add to a maximum of 10 points thereby making it easier for you to be eligible under the 67-points calculator.
  6. Adaptability – Candidates get additional points if they are applying with their spouse or common-law partner, have studied in Canada in the past, or have any direct relatives there.

Steps of Express Entry pathway

Once you meet the eligibility criteria for the Express Entry pathway for Canada PR, here is how you should proceed:
  1. Get your ECA report: Every foreign national needs to get their academic credentials assessed by any of the IRCC-approved bodies. There are many ECA providers however not all are eligible to evaluate your education. Hence choosing the right body is critical. The ECA report confirms that your education in a foreign land can be considered equivalent to that of Canadian standards.
  2. Get your IELTS scorecard: While your educational credentials are getting assessed, you can write the IELTS to save time in the Canada PR process.
  3. Calculate CRS score: Once you have the ECA and IELTS reports, you will be able to estimate your CRS score. It is based on this score that applicants receive Invitation to Apply (ITA) for the PR visa.
  4. Getting into the Express Entry pool: Create an Express Entry profile and get into the pool of applicants. Every applicant will receive a unique reference number once their profile is successfully submitted. All future updates provided by the IRCC will take place through this unique id.
  5. Receive ITA: Candidates with high CRS scores will receive ITA. Individuals with an ITA letter have 60 days to apply for the PR visa online.
  6. Apply for the PR visa: Once you submit the electronic application for permanent residence, you will get an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR). This means your application has been received by IRCC. Following a successful completion of background checks and medical results review, candidates will get the passport request email, and thereafter a confirmation of permanent residence.
To fast-track, your Express Entry application, combine it with the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) program. However, it is recommended that you discuss the same with experienced visa consultants prior to making any changes to your profile submitted in the pool.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and its benefits

The PNP allows Canadian provinces to nominate selected candidates from the pool. Once nominated, these applicants get 600 points added to their CRS score. This boosts their scores to a large extent and increases their chances of receiving an ITA.
Each province in Canada has its own set of requirements and PNP system. Hence applicants must take those into account before sending their Expression of Interest (EOI).
Some of the popular PNPs that invited the maximum candidates in the last couple of Express Entry draws are –
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP), Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP), etc.
